Carl Mergele
Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Mergele brings more than 20 years of executive leadership experience to Brainware. He is responsible for setting the company’s strategic corporate direction, overseeing the introduction of Brainware's products, and achieving annual financial goals. Prior to Brainware, Mr. Mergele served as Chief Executive Officer of SER Solutions, Inc. where he managed the successful integration of three companies that formed SER Solutions, and then lead the management buyout of SER Solutions from SER Systems AG. Mr. Mergele managed SER Solutions through significant growth and profitability, directed the divestiture of SER’s DMS business, and led the spin-off of Brainware, Inc. in February 2006.

James Zubok
Chief Financial Officer and General Counsel
With a strong background in patent enforcement and protecting intellectual property, Mr. Zubok has worked to secure worldwide patents for the core Brainware engine and the company's other technology, helping protect Brainware's product line. His litigation expertise and in-depth knowledge of related technology tools have helped guide the company's strategy in selling Globalbrain to the legal industry. Before joining Brainware, Mr. Zubok served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel at SER Solutions, Inc. where he assisted Mr. Mergele in effectuating the MBO from SER Systems AG, divesting SER’s DMS business, and spinning off Brainware, Inc. Prior to joining SER, Mr. Zubok served as outside counsel to SER Solutions and other companies as an attorney in the New York offices of Fulbright and Jaworski, LLP, an international law firm with over 900 lawyers.

David Mountcastle
Vice President, Finance
Mr. Mountcastle oversees Brainware’s accounting, finance, human resources, risk management and other administrative operations. He has been in his current position with Brainware since May 2006. He came to Brainware from iDirect Technologies, Inc. where he headed the accounting, finance, human resources, sales administration and other administrative departments. His prior work experience also includes senior-level positions with a number of Health Insurance Companies, including United HealthCare and Coventry Healthcare. Mr. Mountcastle started his career in public accounting with Ernst and Young LLP. He holds a B.B.A. in Accounting from James Madison University and an M.B.A. with a double concentration in Finance and Information Systems from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Todd Hicks
Senior Vice President, Worldwide Sales
Mr. Hicks leads the U.S., U.K., and European sales and partner organizations at Brainware. He brings more than 17 years of sales and sales management experience to Brainware and has led both large and small organizations. Prior to his appointment at Brainware, Mr. Hicks was the Senior Director of Sales and Account Management at Westlaw Business, a division of Thomson Reuters, and drove the strategy and tactics of the sales organization in a high growth business. Prior to Thomson Reuters, Mr. Hicks was the Director of Sales at GSI and drove the growth and expansion of their business prior to the company’s’ acquisition by Thomson Reuters. Mr. Hicks has held various senior sales positions at market leaders such as CCH, ADP and A.B. Dick. A graduate of Eastern Michigan University, he earned a B.B.A. in accounting.

Colin Kaye
Senior Vice President, Strategic Alliances
Mr. Kaye, who for 11 years held senior sales and marketing management positions with data capture vendor ReadSoft, is responsible for further developing the company’s strategic partner base and increasing the global footprint of the Brainware Distiller solution. Mr. Kaye has a proven track record of success within the document automation sector. He brings a wealth of knowledge around forms processing, purchase-to-pay automation and mailroom applications. Mr. Kaye has also held executive management positions with information management vendor Anacomp.

Stephen Xeller
Vice President, North American Sales
Mr. Xeller is responsible for managing all sales-related activities for Brainware solutions in the US, Canada, and Mexico. He brings more than12 years of experience selling complex enterprise software and professional service engagements. He joins Brainware from Experian QAS, where he led the fastest growing sales team in QAS history, delivering 100% year-over-year growth for the past three years. He is an expert in providing structure, leadership and process to sales organizations in rapid growth modes. Prior to Experian QAS, Mr. Xeller was a founding member of eStartupSolutions, Inc., a corporate relocation firm for technology companies in the San Francisco Bay Area. He was responsible for growing the business to $4M in four years. Mr. Xeller holds a B.A in Economics from Fairfield University.

Steve Britton
Vice President, European Sales
Mr. Britton manages all sales activities for Brainware in the EMEA regions. Mr. Britton has a wealth of experience managing software and services sales into Global 2000 accounts like Airbus, Shell, Nestle, Unilever, Halliburton, Hertz, Abbey-Santander, Sony, HSBC, British Telecom, Cisco and a host of others. Most recently, Mr. Britton held the positions of Director of Sales for ServiceSource and as Head of Enterprise Sales at Bottomline Technologies Europe. In addition, he has held various sales management postions at Bottomline Technologies and SER Solutions.

Neil Moses
Executive Director, Business Development
Mr. Moses is responsible for Brainware's deal negotiations and business development activities. Mr. Moses brings more than ten years of business development, legal and entrepreneurial experience to Brainware. Before joining Brainware, Mr. Moses served as President and co-founder of Rogomo, Inc., where he launched several expert marketplaces, including WeTutor.com. Prior to Rogomo, Mr. Moses held a number of senior-level positions at AOL, which included leading the New Revenue organization and a number of Business Development and Strategy teams. Moses was also an associate attorney at the law firm Fulbright & Jaworski LLP. He earned a J.D. from the New York University School of Law and B.A in Political Science from Emory University.

John Craig
Director, Strategic Alliances
A recent addition to Brainware's leadership, Mr. Craig develops and manages strategic sales channels for Brainware solutions. He comes to Brainware after serving as the Director of Sales for ReadSoft’s North American operations. During his decade at ReadSoft, Mr. Craig was named Global Sales Person of the Year multiple times. He also held the position of Vice President of Sales at Geyser Peak Winery. Mr. Craig studied Urban Design & Landscape Architecture at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in both undergraduate and graduate programs.

Tom Steinhagen
Director, North American Partners
Mr. Steinhagen manages the North American partner program for Brainware. As such, he is responsible for establishing and supporting indirect sales relationships in the Americas. Those relationships include referral partners, value added reseller (or distributor) relationships and OEM relationships. Mr. Steinhagen’s history with Brainware dates back to 1998, when Brainware was doing business as SER Solutions. Over that time, he has held various roles in Sales and Sales Management and has consistently exceeded sales targets and been a strong advocate for end users and partners within the company.

Gerard Lopez
Vice President, EMEA
Mr. Lopez is based at Brainware's office in Switzerland, where he previously served as Director of the Canton for the Neuchâtel Economical Development Agency (DEN). As Cantonal Director, Mr. Lopez negotiated business contracts with numerous companies in the high-tech, medical, manufacturing, R&D, finance fields and others, significantly expanding economic activity, jobs, and commercial tax revenue in the Neuchâtel region. Prior to his position with DEN, Mr. Lopez served as Corporate Business Development Director for Merisant, Inc., where he designed and implemented go-to-market strategies, oversaw growth of indirect/partner channels, and contributed to overall revenue growth. He also served as Merisant’s Director of International Operations, responsible for manufacturing, engineering, logistics, customer service, planning, quality, and purchasing.

Charles Kaplan
Vice President of Marketing
Mr. Kaplan oversees Brainware’s global marketing activities. His experience includes 15 years in information technology and applied information analysis in such areas as product marketing, product management, revenue management, and financial analysis. He came to Brainware from DecisionPath Consulting where he headed the marketing and business development functions for this business intelligence and data warehousing consulting firm. His prior work experience also includes senior-level product management and marketing roles in the document capture market with SER Solutions, in the telecom industry with 2nd Century Communications, and in the travel industry with American Airlines and Marriott International. Throughout his career, he has excelled at launching innovative, technology-based solutions that address the needs of complex business challenges. Kaplan earned an M.B.A.from the Darden School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia in addition to his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University.

Blaine Owens
Vice President, Enterprise Solutions
Mr. Owens is responsible for providing the tools, education, and hands-on market insight to Brainware Account Executives and Sales Associates to help them maximize their effectiveness in the field. Mr. Owens brings more than 25 years of industry experience within the document management and imaging software solutions market, where he most recently held the position of National Sales Director for Astria Solutions Group. Prior to Astria, he spent seven years with Captiva, where he held a number of pivotal roles that included Director of Business Development, Vice President of Sales, and Vice President of Enterprise Solutions. During his tenure at Captiva, the company’s revenue grew from $18M to just past $84M at the time of its acquisition by EMC.

Rick Lowe
Vice President, Product Development
Mr. Lowe oversees Brainware's development teams. He is a skilled executive with more than 27 years of experience in information technology delivery, business management and product development. Mr. Lowe is responsible for aligning Brainware's technology across multiple industries, and developing agile, enterprise-wide technical and business-process operations solutions for global organizations. He ensures that these solutions continue to provide industry-leading levels of functionality, performance and return on investment. Prior to joining Brainware, Mr. Lowe held IT executive, technology planning product development, software QA, systems, process management and process reengineering roles in the telecommunications, mobile, internet, banking, travel and entertainment and government consulting industries.

Scott Hess
Vice President, Systems Delivery
Mr. Hess is responsible for Brainware's professional services organization. With over 22 years of information technology and consulting experience, he oversees Brainware’s customer engagements world-wide, ensuring superior deployments of the full Brainware product line. Mr. Hess's extensive background in software development and delivery within the higher education, travel & leisure, telecommunications, manufacturing, state & local government, and internet industries enables him to provide the dynamic insights required to serve Brainware's diverse customer base

David Luzier
Vice President, Customer Education and Support
Mr. Luzier sets the direction for and oversees the execution of Brainware's pre-sales, technical training and customer support operations. His experience includes more than 15 years of technical development, sales, and product management experience with EIS International, SER Solutions and Brainware. Mr. Luzier holds a B.S. in Computer Information Systems from Concord University.

Werner Voegeli
Director of Research and Development
An accomplished scientist and engineer, Mr. Voegeli and his team of PhD's from the University of Oldenburg in Germany have developed patented and patent-pending neural network technology that allow a user to "teach" Brainware's software how to read, analyze, and classify information – transforming the way machines are able to process printed documents. The Brainware development team is focused on ensuring that new releases of technology continue to meet the latest needs of Brainware's customers. Mr. Voegeli has been an integral part of the development of Brainware’s technology since 1997, initially as founder of ARCO Trading AG, which developed new learning software based on neural-network and support vector machine technologies. Mr. Voegeli has also created software that can analyze and classify an individual's unique speech pattern using sophisticated pattern-matching capabilities.
